2008 has been a fantastic year for Knutsford Rugby Club and the town is now firmly planted on the rugby map. The fastest growing club in the country has a great future says chairman Gareth Walton "We have done so well in the first five years but the journey has barely begun and 2009 will be a big year for the club".
2008 was all about on-field success and many will have enjoyed some exciting games at Mereheath Lane with both senior sides promoted. The 1st XV were unbeaten at home and finished runners up. Captain Sam Fishburn has continued to lead the side and after some good wins the team have consolidated in mid table. The 2nd XV were rampant last season and now team manager Neil Clark has some exciting new talent to pick alongside some great experienced players. They too are looking good in mid table. The Kasuals have also offered a team for the elder statesmen and Steve McGuiness' side are unbeaten this year. Club Captain Tom Coulbeck is delighted with the progress being made by the seniors and is already working with coach Geoff Crawford on the 2009/10 campaign, were the club will again be seeking promotion.
Chairmen of the Juniors Steve Mooney is nurturing the clubs future sucess with 114 children now playing on a Sunday, supported by many dedicated coaches and parents. The Junior sides moved to Egerton Youth Club this season and will be followed by the Senior sides this summer. The club are working with EYC and will be developing several pitches a new gym, bar and changing rooms in the coming months. Fantastic facilities will compliment the succesful Senior and Junior sections and help support the clubs brilliant social events. "None of this would be possible without our amazing sponsors, committees, players, coaches, parents, volunteers and anyone else associated with our club" says Walton, "a Merry Christmas to all, from KRFC".
